Happy Birthday Bob Marley - While Kymani still gets no respect

I'm sure Bob is Not Happy looking down on this today.. which would have been his 65th earthyear

The Bob Marley Smile Jamaica Concert Being Cancelled; then Kymani's Book interference.  This book was supposed to tell the story, and yet again Rita and Her Legalteam prevent us from getting more, of Bob's Legacy.  this may be the lynchpin for her. people are tired of the whole Rita Marley scenario and  it appears that finally she will be ignored - because no see's her control as a good thing. not for Bob's Legacy, Not for Tuff Gong, and certainly Not For The Marley Foundation.

Bless Up Bredda Bob We Shall Never Forget Your Legacy

Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley (February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981) was a Jamaican singer-songwriter and musician. He was the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist for the ska, rocksteady and reggae bands The Wailers (1964–1974) and Bob Marley & The Wailers (1974–1981). Marley remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited for helping spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience.[1]
Marley's best known hits include "I Shot the Sheriff", "No Woman, No Cry", "Could You Be Loved", "Stir It Up", "Jamming", "Redemption Song", "One Love" and, together with The Wailers, "Three Little Birds",[2] as well as the posthumous releases "Buffalo Soldier" and "Iron Lion Zion". The compilation album, Legend (1984), released three years after his death, is reggae's best-selling album, being 10 times Platinum (Diamond) in the U.S.,[3] and selling 20 million copies worldwide.[4][5]

I'm very hurt - Ky-Mani Marley: Artiste at odds with publishers over autobiography

Published: Saturday | February 6, 2010

Howard Campbell, Gleaner Writer

FANS OF reggae singer Ky-Mani Marley may get more than they bargained for when they read his autobiography, which is scheduled to be released today in the United States by Farrah Gray Publishing.

Kymani Marley, son of reggae legend Bob Marley, is at odds with the publishers, whom he accuses of changing the book's original title and going sensational to help spur sales. Dear Dad: Where's The Family In Our Family, Today? The Story the Marley Family Apparently Doesn't Want You to Know, is the title of the book. Its working title had been Dear Dad: The Marley Son Who Persevered From The Streets To Prominence.

In an interview with The Gleaner Wednesday, Marley said he was considering legal action against Las Vegas-based Farrah Gray.
"I'm not happy about it, I'm very hurt," Marley said. "All I wanted to do was tell my story, not cause any conflict."
Dad's birthday release

Dear Dad, which was done by Ky-Mani and a ghost writer, has been released on the day Bob Marley would have celebrated his 65th birthday.

But according to a press release from Farrah Gray, Ky-Mani's revelations are likely to dampen celebrations.

"The Marley family is so outraged over the publishing of this memoir they lodged a campaign of intimidation over Ky-Mani Marley as the author of this book. They also demand that he confirm and showcase such distortions during his interviews and the highly awaited book tour," the statement read.

Ky-Mani said he showed an early draft of the book to his sister Cedella Marley, who had no problems with it but who added that parts of the final product disturbed him.

"There are things like Rita not liking me and cutting me off financially after my father's death," he told The Gleaner.

Ky-Mani Marley was born in Falmouth, Trelawny, in 1976. His mother is Anita Belnavis, a leading Jamaica table-tennis player during the 1970s who had an affaire with the married Marley.

indifferent relationships

The book focuses on Ky-Mani's early life in Falmouth and south Florida, where he and his mother emigrated to in the early 1980s. He revisits an impoverished childhood and reflects on an indifferent relationship with his father's legitimate children and widow, Rita.

He says his fortunes changed considerably in 1994 through a financial settlement from the Marley estate.

Bob Marley, who died from cancer at age 36, has been the subject of several controversial books. The most infamous was 1995's Marley and Me, written by his former manager Don Taylor.

Rita Marley also caused a stir with her No Woman No Cry: My Life With Bob Marley, which was released in May 2004.

Like his brothers, Ziggy, Stephen, Damian and Julian, Ky-Mani Marley has focused on a music career and has done fairly well. He has recorded four albums, the first being Like Father, Like Son which was released in 1996.

His last studio effort was Radio which was released, in 2007.

He also starred in the low-budget action films Shottas and One Love. His Living The Life of Marley reality show first aired on BET in 2007.

It's amazing how I and so many other people feel such a kinship to him through his music. I love all things Marley and it's shame his name is often associated with negativity.

Great post. I learned some things I didn't know.

Bob Marley's legacy will live on in the best of ways, in spite of anything Rita does. Isn't it wonderful that we have our memories, and insipid people cannot take that away from us. Families. Sometimes the havoc they cause is unspeakable. Thanks for this loving tribute, RE.

Jacqueline his spirit will continue to grow and draw generations to him. rita is a scorned woman who didnt and still doesn't know how to move on. that really that's what she needs to do. Yes My Sister, Long Love Bob Marley

Hey There Petula, Bob's legacy is so huge that everyday I learn something about him still after all these years. I'll be forever loving bob, as i know you will too.

Cher you and I know about that family fakery and rita is the posterchild for it. Bob is such a legend that his shadow will wash out any dirt she tries to throw at him; even still now. Bob Marley is the Love we Share when we talk about his greatness. his legacy will continue for as long as we keep it alive and vibrant. Yes Cher, Long Love Bob !

I'm not that familiar with the history there. Is Rita like a Candy Spelling and doesn't want anything negative coming out about her and/or has this weird rivalry/public battle with her children, or is she more like Yoko Ono or Michelle Phillips and wants to control all information about her husband?

Her tactics are going to backfire, whether she successfully puts a stop to the book or not, because all she's doing is making people that much more interested in what the son had to say in the book. Stuff like that tends to leak onto the internet, and once there, it's always there.

Staci, that bitch has millions of dollars that bob made for his kids. she refuses to distribute the money equitably and she has stopped anyone except her picks from getting access to anything marley, unless she says so.

a woman I know who was one of bob's paramours says that bob left a will, and rita had it destroyed. can you imagine having that kind of influence ?

the whole thing will blow up in her face when one of the kids finally gets tired of it and puts her ass under dirt. that's why she doesn't go to jamaica mon. she's got contracts on her ass like a mafia don. people spit when they hear her name they hate her so much. I've heard preachers say she couldn't be buried in their cemetary because they don't bury vampires.

personally speaking, she's less than the lowest trash I've ever met and yes I've met her. she thinks she's miss shit on a stick but in reality she's just bullshit peroid. trust me, she's not gonna live long enough to prevent her face from cracking. oh yes it's gonna happen cause this bitch has alot of dirt out there and people are gonna start shoveling it real soon.

just wait a bit my girl, trust me it's all in due time. Jah Know.

I tire of people having nothing but negative things to say about Rita Marley. She is just a woman, not an angel. Bob Marley was just a man,not Jesus Christ. His wealth and fame were largely contributed to by Rita and the rest of the Wailors. If she was such a terrible woman why did he choose her? He is to blame for any issues that were left in the wake of his death. Ultimately the children were his responsibility. When he was breeding women left, right and center he should have set them up BEFORE he died. Bob was a great artist but he was a very selfish husband and father. People need to look beyond the music to the character of the person. Bob was extremely immature and he is to blame, period.
