America Lost a Poet and a Piece of it's Soul - R.I.P. Gil Scott Heron

This is the reality that Gil always Spoke of ,

we wonder if when he was making this song; he was leaving us a message,

Everytime he left New York he always returned. he had so many issues with New York but it was like a drug to him. he craved it, and he always wanted to be there. he could be anywhere he wanted but he always wanted to be in Harlem.

Most recently Gil called Harlem home since 2006. that is where he was when he went to the hospital and passed away. his family has chosen not to discuss the health issues; but we'll say that they were longstanding and as a result of his addiction.

This was Gils' Mug Shot from his 2000 arrest for possession of a controlled substance. you can read about the trial and set up here.

Gil Lived Life to the fullest, everyday. He left us songs that will explain the reality of the struggle of African Americans in America. He was truly an American Folk Singer and Hero. We doubt that anyone will deny that.

Gil gave us memories that will remain as fresh today as the morning dew. he was always smiling and talking about the struggle and enjoying as much of life as you could as a revolutionary. Because of Gils' love for Heroin, he was denied membership in the Black Panther Party.

Most folks don't know this. we do because we heard the rationalizing and bargaining. the deal never got the chairman's (Huey) okay. it would have opened up a can of worms that the party couldn't deal with. but they loved Gil and always provided him lots of support, security in certain cities early on; and even helped him market his early music directly in the community.

Yes Gil was a force of Unity. he drew everyone together. preachers quoted him. politicians feared him. police harassed him. dope men loved him. and yes the people Adored Him Even Now.

Gil was in Detroit when the first Fermi Shutter occurred. He wrote it immediately. notice he says no one thought about the babies. he was speaking about his own daughter.

His Girl Honey had recently lost their baby and it caused him deep pain. I remember seeing him literally crying. it was a very sad time.

Always Remember Gil Scott Heron and His contribution to African American Consciousness Raising; as well as his music. He discussed the politics of the Cointelpro and Vietnam issues.

Gil never shy-ed away from the most controversial viewpoint and speaking his mind. he felt a responsibility to do it and to assure others that it was also their duty. a duty he kept up until he departed this plane.

This is Gils' Message to the Messengers which talks specifically about the role of those who control the consciousness of the public. it was considered controversial upon release but later it became almost a manifesto for the conscious hip-hop community.

GLAAD Vows To Monitor Tyler The Creator's Lyrics

Gay/Lesbian rights organization GLAAD has announced they will be monitoring the lyrics of Odd Future Wolfgang Kill Them All's lead rapper, Tyler the Creator.

GLAAD issued a statement siding with Sara Quin of indie rock band Tegan and Sara, who recently wrote an open letter criticizing Tyler's lyrics, which she labeled homophobic and misogynistic.

"No genre is without its controversial and offensive characters- I’m not naive," Sara Quin wrote. "I’ve asked myself a thousand times why this is pushing me over the edge. Maybe it’s the access to him (his grotesque twitter, etc). Maybe it’s because I’m a human being, both a girl and a lesbian. Maybe it’s because my mom has spent her whole adult life working with teenage girls who were victims of sexual assault. Maybe it’s because in this case I don’t think race or class actually has anything to do with his hateful message but has EVERYTHING to do with why everyone refuses to admonish him for that message."

Quin said that Tyler frequently hides behind his age and that his lyrics were "repulsive and irresponsible."

She also chastised critics and media for glorifying Tyler and his new album Goblin, which is currently #5 on Billboard's Top 200 Chart.

"If any of the bands whose records are held in similar esteem as Goblin had lyrics littered with rape fantasies and slurs, would they be labeled hate mongers?

A rep for GLAAD said on their blog they would be monitoring Tyler the Creator's lyrics more closely.

"We commend Sara Quin for speaking out publicly against Tyler’s lyrics and hope others will follow in her steps," GLAAD said in a statement. "GLAAD will continue to monitor media coverage of Tyler."

Who the hell talks about busting in someones' mouth and calls it a tune ?

(AllHipHop News) Philadelphia rapper Cassidy has been named a suspect in a murder case after he was arrested on a suspected probation violation. According to reports, Cassidy was arrested this weekend in Hackensack, New Jersey, after Philadelphia police issued an arrest warrant for the rapper.

Investigators claim Cassidy may have been involved in at least one murder, and is a suspect in two other attempted murders.

Police conducted surveillance on a house in Hackensack, New Jersey and followed the rapper to a local convenience store, where he was promptly arrested.

“Without the proper teamwork going on, this could have spiraled out of control quickly," Hackensack Police Leuitenant Timothy Lloyd.

Cassidy, born Barry Reese, is currently awaiting extradition from New Jersey, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In 2006, Cassidy was released from prison after serving 8 months in prison for being convicted of involuntary manslaughter, over a wild shootout in West Oak Lane.

Workers reenter Fukushima’s damaged No. 1 reactor for first time

Things were so dangerous after a blast at Fukushima Daiichi reactor No. 1 that workers didn’t enter the building at all afterwards. Until today. Nearly two months after the hydrogen explosion that greatly damaged the plant on March 11th, NHK reports that workers re-entered the building housing the reactor for the first time since the initial blast. The workers plan to install an air purifier in the plant, reportedly ”aimed at preventing workers from suffering internal radiation exposure when they work on setting up a new cooling system at the No. 1 reactor.” That must be a really good air purifier. And finally but certainly not least of the stories we're watching today, the family of Dave Duerson has received the news they were waiting for - confirmation that his depression and brain injury were the cause of his death. many in the NFL see this of little consiquence - yet we think it makes a world of difference.

We believe that this will encourage the NFL and AAU to take steps to strengthen it's resolve to provide better training and equipment to prevent future injuries such as the ones which cost us a great athlete like Dave Duerson. Terry Bradshaw has also come out recently in the news and admitted that part of his brain is obviously damaged from the continuous hits he took on the field during his long gridiron career.

“Dave Duerson, a former NFL player who committed suicide in February, had left a request with relatives that he wanted his brain tissues examined. That examination has been concluded and its results probably will come as no surprise,” reports Chuck Schilken:

Dr. Ann McKee, the researcher who made the diagnosis, said Duerson had “moderately advanced” brain damage related to blows to the head and that “it’s indisputable” that Duerson had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which is linked to repeated brain trauma.
